Elemental Research works at the boundary of world-model research and interpretability. We develop tools for inspecting model behavior and pursue questions that can be tested through experiments.
APPROACH
Make claims inspectable
A useful explanation should survive more than a visual inspection. We look for evidence that an internal signal changes a model’s behavior, then make the experiment possible to examine again.
Observe
Record representations, predictions, and uncertainty as a model processes an environment or sequence.
Intervene
Replay trajectories and alter a specific state or input to test whether a proposed mechanism matters.
Evaluate
Compare the resulting behavior across examples, including cases where a model’s prediction fails.
